Emmet County Clerk's Office Genealogy Guidelines

Vital records are important and in order to preserve and protect these documents, the following guidelines have to be followed.
1.     Due to limited space, we can only accommodate one researcher at a time.
2.     Researchers are required to provide identification when inspecting vital records.
3.     Researchers are allowed to only search birth records that are over 100 years old.
4.     Because of the age of many of the vital records, they must be handled carefully to avoid any damage. Vital records are not to be marked, altered, folded, traced over, or otherwise handled in any way likely to cause damage to the record or index.
5.     The use of cameras, cell phones or other photographic equipment are prohibited when viewing vital records.
6.     Using ink pens when viewing vital records is prohibited.
7.     There is a $10.00 fee for each copy of a certified vital record. Only cash, local checks and money orders are accepted.
8.     Genealogy hours are on Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
