Got something to get rid of? You've come to the right place.The Emmet County Department of Public Works provides options for recycling, composting, or disposing of almost anything.  And we constantly strive to make our offerings more comprehensive, environmentally positive, affordable, and convenient.

Recycle more, sort less…

Recycle More
Now, in addition to all the materials you’ve been recycling, you can add: 

• Plastic tubs, trays, and cups
• Juice boxes, milk cartons and paper cups
• Cardboard packaging from frozen and refrigerated foods
• Plastic grocery and bread bags

Sort Less
At the same time, with our new Simple Sort System, you only hdave to sort your day-to-day recyclables into two categories:  CONTAINERS & PAPER, BOXES & BAGS

Look Out!
You can begin adding the above materials to your recycling right away. Over the month of July you’ll notice Emmet County’s recycling collection bins and totes changing to reflect the new Simple Sort system and the new materials.

At the Drop Sites, bins will be relabeled with a whole bin for each Simple Sort category—no finding the hole for the right section of the bin!

Curbside, we’ll be providing a second tote to each household to help contain it all!

Tours/Education

From second-graders to Senators, we're delighted to help everyone learn more about recycling and waste disposal. We frequently conduct tours of our Recycling Center in Harbor Springs and also make numerous presentations each year, for example to school groups, service clubs, church groups, meetings of government leaders, and trade groups.
